How to upgrade to macOS Sequoia

  • MacBook Pro introduced in 2018 or later

  • MacBook Air introduced in 2020 or later

  • Mac mini introduced in 2018 or later

  • iMac introduced in 2019 or later

  • iMac Pro introduced in 2017 or later

  • Mac Studio introduced in 2022 or later

  • Mac Pro introduced in 2019 or later

Apple Intelligence on Mac requires a Mac with Apple silicon, with Siri and device language set to U.S. English. Other features might not be available in all countries or regions, or on all Mac models.

Make a backup before upgrading

Before upgrading, it's a good idea to make a backup. For example, you can use Time Machine to back up your files to an external storage device. Learn how to back up your Mac.

Download and install macOS Sequoia

Using Software Update is the fastest and easiest way to upgrade to macOS Sequoia. It can use less storage space than other methods, and it shows only software that is compatible with your Mac.

Use Spotlight in the menu bar to find and open Software Update, or open it from settings:

  • From the Apple menu  in the corner of your screen, choose System Settings. Click General in the sidebar of the window that opens, then click Software Update on the right.

  • In earlier versions of macOS, choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, then click Software Update.
